Exploring Renewable Energy for Rural Fishing Wharves with Low Carbon Communities Grant

SEATAC is developing renewable energy solutions that could reduce fossil fuel reliance in the fishing industry, supported by a $70,000 grant from Nova Scotia’s Low Carbon Communities Program.

This project will focus on the research and design of a renewable energy system to keep fishing vessel electronics and other devices running while at dock, without needing to start a vessel’s engines. It will assess the feasibility of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar and wave energy, for application at rural wharves without existing shore power access.

With opportunities for collaboration and engagement with local fishers, the aim is to drive forward a sustainable, community-driven solution that supports Nova Scotia’s clean energy transition.
