- This event has passed.
March 3 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join COVE and the Discovery Centre for a free professional development course about bringing ocean data into the classroom!
Now more than ever, digital skills and data literacy are in high demand, particularly in the marine technology sector. The Deep Dive into Data program, hosted by COVE provides a full day of engaging tutorials and activities to support secondary-level educators in understanding the use of data and coding in classrooms. For this session, COVE is partnering with the Discovery Centre to lead a day full of activities to take back to the classroom to inspire and engage your students in ocean education.
During this one-day workshop, junior high and high school teachers will become familiar with a curriculum designed to pair marine technology and real-time data collected from the ocean. This workshop also has curriculum ties to a variety of science and math courses at the secondary level. The interactive activities will foster critical thinking, data analyses and interpretation that you will take back to your classrooms. This engaging program will allow your students to dive into ocean data exploration through group activities and coding tasks, to navigate real-world situations using creative approaches and valuable skill development used in marine sector work.
Please note that this session is designed for teachers and educators within Nova Scotia. Meals for the day and mileage will be covered by COVE. For anyone needing accommodation for the evening prior, please reach out to the program facilitator, Kat Mataya at kat.mataya@coveocean.com. More information will be provided by the facilitators upon registration.
