Partnership strengthens transatlantic collaboration, accelerates technology development, and supports sustainable offshore energy growth.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (14 November 2025) – COVE, a global technology partner advancing high-impact solutions with both commercial and strategic potential in the marine industry, and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the UK’s leading technology innovation and research center for offshore renewable energy, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advancing offshore renewable energy technologies and solutions across both nations. The partnership aims to foster innovation, accelerate technology development, and support sustainable growth in the offshore renewable energy sector, delivering benefits for organizations, industry, and local economies.
“This collaboration represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen transatlantic ties in offshore renewable energy while accelerating the development of technologies that support sustainable growth,” said Melanie Nadeau, Chief Executive Officer of COVE. “By combining our expertise with ORE Catapult, we can advance innovation amongst the supply chain while promoting ecosystem and climate-positive outcomes.”
Under the MoU, COVE and ORE Catapult will co-launch innovation challenges to tackle critical industry issues in both Canada and the UK. They will also facilitate collaborative demonstration programs that leverage their world-class facilities, with organizations to accelerate paths to market.
The partnership will advance ecosystem-based approaches for monitoring offshore wind farms and implement smart technology for regional-scale observation — the coordinated tracking and analysis of environmental and technological conditions across multiple sites.
Additionally, the collaboration will deliver business growth programs to upskill the supply chain, equipping companies with the knowledge and expertise needed to enter and succeed in the offshore renewable energy market.
Magnus Harrold, Senior Marine Energy Technical Manager at ORE Catapult, said, “The UK has world-leading experience in the development of offshore renewable energy, supporting innovation, and test and validation of new technologies designed to lower costs, enhance safety and performance, and accelerate deployment.”
“Our expertise in environmental monitoring, co-existence with other marine users and operating in harsh environments dovetails effectively with COVE’s extensive expertise in developing smart marine technologies. We therefore look forward to working in partnership to highlight new opportunities and further develop best practices designed to achieve our collective clean energy goals.”
By joining forces, COVE and ORE Catapult are creating a platform for innovation, knowledge exchange, and market growth. The partnership reduces technology development risk, encourages sustainable practices, and promotes smart monitoring and digital solutions. It also strengthens economic and trade ties between Canada and the UK while supporting environmental stewardship and a globally competitive offshore renewable energy sector.
COVE and ORE Catapult bring world-class expertise and industry networks to support the growth of offshore renewable energy in Canada, the UK, and beyond.
