To support new talent entering the sector, COVE facilitates a marine technology sector internship program for students across Canada to help support and grow your business. 

Employer Eligibility: 
  • Open to any maritime / ocean-related business with an office in Nova Scotia 
  • Provide a project-based work opportunity for an intern(s) 
 Employer Benefits: 
  • Host a bright, competent post-secondary student (intern) for 16-week full-time employment from May to August 
  • A wage subsidy is provided that supports a minimum intern wage of $22 / hr 
  • Employer contribution of $8000 / intern 
  • Intern recruitment and onboarding 
  • Human Resources and payroll services 
  • Intern orientation, professional development opportunities, networking events, mentorship, and ongoing support throughout the summer provided by COVE 
  • Access to early career talent from interdisciplinary backgrounds 
Deadlines: 
  • December 18, 2024 – Expression of Interest deadline 
  • January 3, 2025 – Host companies notified of the final decision
  • January 27, 2025 – Host company contracts due 
  • January 27, 2025 – Deadline for intern applications 
  • February 2025 – Resume review and interviews  
  • March 28, 2025 – Final candidate selections completed and Interns hired  
  • May 5 – August 22, 2025 – Intern placement with host company

The minimum hourly rate per intern is $22/hr. Companies have the option to pay more for potential candidates. Please specify the range you would be willing to offer for the right candidate.
Where will the intern(s) be based during their placement?
Please note that all interns must be supervised by the host company throughout the duration of the internship. A direct supervisor must be available to provide oversight for the majority of the work week. All internships must be in-person, however, hybrid models are an option at the discretion of the host company. Please specify the conditions of the work environment (i.e. hybrid work environment, fieldwork required, access to a vehicle necessary, working independently or in a team, etc.).

Additional Considerations - Applicant Requirements

Specify any skills, background knowledge, and educational experience you would like the intern(s) to have. Note that this internship is only eligible for students enrolled in post-secondary education. Any required skill sets should be aligned with the role expectations.
Please include any other specific requirements needed for the role (e.g. French-speaking, security clearance, driver's licence, access to vehicle).
Identify any additional "nice-to-have" skill sets the intern could bring to the role. These are not mandatory but would be considered a bonus, such as certifications or proficiency in additional software programs.
