Our Facilities

COVE has designed the most natural place in the world to imagine, test and discover.

A 13-acre waterfront facility in Canada’s deepest harbour provides the best space in the world to turn ideas into commercial solutions. Ocean technology companies, post-secondary researchers, and marine-based service businesses come to the COVE facility for programming, and short- and long-term tenancies.

We provide:

  • ~550,000 sq ft of protected wharf frontage in Halifax Harbour along the Atlantic Ocean
  • 49 ft depth at wharf face
  • 2,850 feet of docks & 2 finger piers
  • 26,000 sq ft of office & workshop space
  • 16,500 square feet of shop and lab space
  • Approximately 60 ocean tech companies on-site

 


On-site amenities include electronics fabrication and testing facilities, mechanical fabrication space, office space, storage spaces, waterside marine services, and multipurpose spaces for training and events.

Programs + Services

COVE provides strategic network-building opportunities, connections, and thought leadership amongst the global ocean tech community and runs programs to foster the development of the workforce, the acceleration of ocean tech product releases, and the success of new ventures by start-ups, scaleups and SMEs. These programs and COVE’s ability to nationally harness multi-disciplinary skills and capabilities within the marine ecosystem is an enabler in solving industry challenges, generating economic benefits, and providing value to investors.

Stella Maris

Stella Maris is a unique testbed for marine instrumentation and Eastern Canada’s most versatile seabed technology platform. The Stella Maris is a low-cost and easily accessible way for ocean technology companies to conduct product development, verification, and commercialization to get their products to market faster.

Ocean Scaleup Accelerator

The Global Incubator Programme – Ocean Scaleup Accelerator is an acceleration programme for up to eight innovative UK-based companies in the ocean sector to work at COVE to build long-term relationships and foundations to accelerate future market growth.

Samqwane’jk

Samqwane’jk connects Indigenous ocean businesses and ocean technology companies in Atlantic Canada to share knowledge and expertise to create new and sustainable solutions for regional, national and global ocean challenges.

SmartATLANTIC

The SmartATLANTIC Alliance supports operational efficiency, situational awareness and safety in the marine environment and provides an unprecedented level of support to the country’s coastal and ocean management efforts. SmartATLANTIC Alliance buoy data, weather forecasts and value-added information products are freely available on its website.

DeepSense

DeepSense unites the next generation of AI and machine learning experts with companies that want to harness the potential of data and lead the smarter ocean economy. By leveraging technology and research, companies can more easily use data to make decisions, optimize operations, and create new products, processes or services. All with low cost and low risk.

Start-Up Yard

Start-Up Yard is the incubation facility at COVE operated by Invest Nova Scotia. We help early stage companies commercialize their ocean technologies and succeed in the global marketplace. Start-ups grow stronger, faster with our acceleration programs, incubation space and services, funding, shared equipment, expertise, mentoring and wharf access.
