SUMMARY:Ocean Connector: Autonomous Systems for Ocean Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Ocean Connector and dive into the world of autonomous systems for monitoring our ocean with Dr. Clark Richards.\n\n\nOceanography is rooted in the need for in situ observations. Remote sensing techniques\, while powerful and transformative in many ways\, are unable to provide accurate data from the interior of the ocean\, which is needed for long-term monitoring\, ocean state estimates\, and understanding the impacts of climate change. \nWhile ships have long been the go-to for collecting data\, recent technological advances have produced an explosion of platforms and systems that can provide data\, often in near real-time\, beneath the surface. \nDr. Clark Richards\, a Research Scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada\, Bedford Institute of Oceanography\, will outline some of the systems and tools used by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to monitor the ocean\, such as floats\, gliders\, and observatories and present some scientific results that have been applied locally and globally.

SUMMARY:Floating Wind Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Floating Wind Solutions\, held annually in Houston\, is the ultimate opportunity for those who are presently involved in or seeking entry into floating wind. \nFWS facilitates network opportunities with the right experienced people while gaining knowledge of the technical solutions available. Floating Wind Solutions’ mission is to utilize this platform to bring together the many critical players within the wind and offshore industries enabling accelerated adoption of Floating Wind Energy globally. This premier event’s primary goal is to accelerate the Energy Transition\, by focusing on the industrialization and commercialization of Floating Wind Energy. A world class Advisory Board ensures that the program maintains its sharp focus on the principles of the mission. \nExceptional growth in the harvesting of Floating Wind Energy will be reliant upon the technology and experience of companies historically focused on the offshore Supply Chain. With few exceptions\, these companies are the only ones who have ever designed\, constructed or installed permanently moored structures of any kind. In addition\, traditional Major Offshore Energy Operators are leading investors\, developers and operators of Floating Wind Energy Projects.

SUMMARY:Ocean Connector: The future of international autonomous system innovation
DESCRIPTION:Join us at COVE for a one-of-a-kind event that brings together experts\, innovators\, and thought leaders in the marine technology sector. This in-person gathering will dive deep into the future of regulatory review and how it intersects with the exciting advancements in autonomous system innovation. \nAutonomous systems will be necessary for the ongoing maintenance of offshore industries such as wind farms as they mitigate risk to humans from the somewhat exciting but dangerous environment offshore. Autonomous systems have the potential to improve the availability of information from offshore assets significantly\, but they need to be trusted to do the job safely. This means showing that they are safe and reliable. Otherwise\, there is more downside than upside to their use. \nThe regulatory space is focused on safety\, and the still developing technologies must inform this. If regulation is pre-emptive\, then it may stifle innovation. The sea surface domain is regulated mainly under international agreements focused on the International Maritime Organisation\, with national bodies then drafting their interpretations as needed. \nNick Tudor\, CEO at D-RisQ Ltd.\, leads this presentation on the current status of autonomous systems and a potential way ahead for international certification. \nAbout Nick: Following a full career as a Royal Air Force Officer Engineer\, Nick has been working in software and high integrity systems for the past two decades. As Co-Founder of D-RisQ\, he has worked in multiple sectors including aerospace\, defence\, automotive\, rail\, autonomous systems in air\, land\, sea\, nuclear decommissioning and cyber-security. D-RisQ was also one of the companies that participated in COVE’s Ocean Scale-Up Accelerator Program in partnership with Innovate UK. Furthermore\, Nick is one of only three UK nationals on the invite only panel that develops advice for DO-178C\, the de-facto software standard for aerospace\, and conducts audit and training in DO-178C on behalf of various clients. He also participates in several standards bodies and is the Design Authority Chair for a Scottish autonomous systems project which is setting benchmarks for the design\, development and use of standardized autonomous systems in the offshore sector.
