Join us at COVE on June 20, for an OFI Seed Fund doubleheader with Jessica L. Bennett and Dr. Christopher Algar.
The OFI Seed Fund supports ocean-related projects that offer high potential for innovation success but need small amounts of funding to help them to move forward — and grow.
Jessica Bennett, BSc. is a doctoral student at the Centre for Water Resource studies at Dalhousie University. Jessica has worked in the aquaculture industry for a number of years and is now focusing her research in the development of novel treatment techniques for the degradation of estrogens. Jessica is supervised by Dr. Graham Gagnon, Associate Vice-president of Research and Professor at Dalhousie University. Jessica will present her project, TiO2 Photoelectrocatalysis of Estrogens: A Novel Treatment Technology to Ensure Environmental Sustainability
Dr. Christopher Algar received a PhD in Oceanography from Dalhousie University and was a postdoctoral scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. He is currently an assistant professor in the Dept. of Oceanography at Dalhousie University with research interests in sediment geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and microbial ecology. Dr. Algar will present his project, Remediation of aquaculture impacted sediments using microbial fuel cells.
