Marine Renewables Canada 2020 Fall Forum – November 4-5, 2020

November 4, 2020 @ 8:00 am - November 5, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

2020 is a much different year than many of us would have anticipated. The global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted project plans and supply chains and created many other challenges for the energy sector as a whole. As the dialogue around economic recovery evolves, there is an increasing role for emerging renewable energy sectors like marine renewables to contribute towards job creation, industrial development, and a resilient future for Canada. It is an optimal time to focus on how we can build back better through initiatives that support dual objectives of stimulating the economy and acting on climate change.

Recognizing the uncertainty around organizing events in 2020, Marine Renewables Canada is hosting a one-day Fall Forum on November 5, with a pre-forum virtual panel session on November 4, in lieu of the annual conference, to support its members and the industry. The event will explore how things have changed and how the sector can adapt, evolve, and capitalize on the opportunities that lie ahead. Over the past few weeks there has been exciting news on new projects, research and science initiatives to support regulatory predictability, and initiatives that span the country to support tidal and river current energy technology development. Forum attendees will have the opportunity to get updates on these recent announcements, learn more about how local suppliers can get involved, and engage in discussion with colleagues and speakers.

The Fall Forum is designed to encourage in-person participation with all current public health protocols implemented – and – will also provide the tools and ability for members and industry across the country and internationally to join virtually. Marine Renewables Canada hopes that the Fall Forum will create an opportunity the industry hasn’t had for awhile – bringing our members, industry, partners, and colleagues together to reconnect, get updates on opportunities, and strategize on the path ahead.

Forum topics will include:

November 4, 2020 Pre-forum virtual panel:

  • Global marine renewable energy sector outlook

November 5, 2020 Fall Forum:

  • Building back better: Trends, politics, and opportunities
  • Paving the way for sector growth – addressing risks and ensuring safe and responsible development
  • Bay of Fundy Tidal Energy Projects: Progress, Plans & Opportunities
  • Growing Canada’s Blue Economy with Marine Renewable Energy
